How long has it been since you have talked with the animals (Dr. Doolitttle style)?

Well, the Child Language Center has a wonderful opportunity for you to do just that at Reid Park Zoo for our Fifth Annual Wings on Words 2002 Benefit. This year’s festivities are entitled "Talking with the Animals: A Celebration of Children and Communication." This year the benefit will be held on Saturday, March 23rd. The zoo’s doors open exclusively for our guests at 5:00 PM. The animals will be on display until 6:30, with a special Jaguar or Giraffe feeding a scheduled event. Food for the occasion will be provided by many different Tucson-area restaurants and caterers. Each one will set up serving stations in Giraffic Park – just a short stroll from the Zoo’s entrance. There, restaurants will show off their favorite dishes and you will get a real taste of Tucson specialities. Food service will be available from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Courtesy golf carts will transport guests to the restaurant area if walking is difficult.

Exploring as you go:

At a variety of spots along your stroll, you will also find fun activities set up for the young and young-at-heart. In fact, the zoo’s educational staff is really excited about helping us set up these exploration stations. After all, who doesn’t want to know how baboons communicate with one another – and with us? As you stroll through the zoo, you will also find walls covered with the children’s beautifully framed artwork. These displays are actually part of our Silent Auction, and many lucky bidders will take home brightly colored, creative works of WOW’s budding artists

And Treasures too!

As in past years, the main tables of the Silent Auction will be filled with many treasures. You’ll find them in the garden area just inside the entrance and next to the dessert and coffee tables. Remember, the Silent auction closes at 7:30, so check you bids frequently. Winners will be determined at that time, and then, "On with the show!"

Music anyone?

Our show this year features a musical group called "O’Shaunesees." This talented group will remind you of the energetic Up With People style of performance. You’ll want to sing along as they entertain us with every conceivable type of music you have come to love (e.g., show tunes, patriotic songs, memory lane reveries, and contemporary hits). The show will culminate our fifth annual celebration to benefit the children and their unique programs at the Child Language Center.

Your presence will make all the difference!

We hope you will all join us for this very special affair. You will have an exceptional evening and provide critical support for the children’s programs. Proceeds will provide scholarships and salary support for the wonderful teachers at Wings on Words Preschool & Kindergarten. The cost of a ticket is the same as last year: $25 per ticket. The cost for children younger than 10 is $5. For groups of 10 friends purchasing tickets together, we will provide a "reserved table" close to the stage. Please come with your friends to enjoy a wonderful evening and support the children in the process. Larry Knight at the Scottish Rite office can take your reservation by phone (622-8660) and by mail (P.O. Box 391, Tucson, AZ 85702).

P.S. Lots of ways to help us get ready!

As we prepare for this event, we invite you to join in and help us. We need help in securing silent auction items and selling tickets. Everything you can do to spread the word about the event will also be very important. Just passing out flyers at your various fraternal and community groups will be a great contribution. Please call Barbara Kiernan (620-0420) if you would like to help. Giving your time to children is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Come and join us in March. We can’t wait to share our fifth annual Wings on Words Benefit with you as we "Talk With The Animals" and "Celebrate Children and Communication." Your presence will make all the difference!
